First-hand accounts of IV sedation

"Overall it went VERY well ... amnesia is very strange! My experience: At the dentists they took my blood pressure, set up the pulse-ox on my finger. As soon as the IV was started in my arm - I have no further memory of anything! My friend said that during the procedure I would bring my hand up toward my face and draw my knees up but when the assistant told me to put my hand or knees down, I did... When I woke up, the assistant, the dentist and my friend told me to swing my legs around and stand up ... which I did very slowly ... my friend said it took me about 10 minutes to get from the dentist chair to the car! The Dentist was very patient and gentle. I had to be encouraged to open my eyes (!), stand up and walk... I would have preferred to sleep! I have no memory of the ride home, but felt very relaxed and comfortable."

"You're kind of in a fog but you still know what is going on all the time. I was awake though for my procedure. They place an IV in your hand or arm and then you start to feel drowsy. I think I slept off and on through the procedure but I don't remember anything more than sounds and faces all being around me."

"Well, I DID IT !!!!!!!! Got to the surgery just in time so no hanging around waiting, straight into the treatment room. I had only taken 2.5mg of diazepam this morning just to take the edge off the panic. As I sat in the chair, I could feel my heart racing and remember telling the dentist that if I needed to do this!.. I didn’t feel the IV being inserted, and as he was topping up the sedation level, he gave me the local injections, now this should be freaking me out, but honestly, I felt nothing!! and me being needle phobic too! And just to quell any fears the extraction:, and I NEVER felt it being extracted. Next thing I knew I was in the little recovery room with my partner."
